Osaka’s Minami (south) area is where many visitors go for food, shopping and nightlife. This guide looks at two hotels there, one at Namba Station and one at Shinsaibashi Station, and what each says about itself. It also covers how to arrive from Kansai Airport and the Osaka accommodation tax. If you would rather stay near Umeda in the north of the city, see our guide to luxury hotels near Umeda.

Step 1: Choose your area

The official Osaka tourism site describes Namba, in the Minami area, as “a crossroads between tradition and trends,” where traditional culture, food and fashion meet. Umeda, in the Kita (north) area, is “the gateway to Osaka,” with shopping malls, department stores and offices. The two hotels below are in the Minami area: one is built over Nankai Namba Station, and the other is connected to Shinsaibashi Station.

Step 2: Plan how you will arrive

If you fly into Kansai International Airport, the Nankai Rapi:t limited express runs between Kansai Airport Station and Nankai Namba Station. According to Nankai, it takes 34 minutes at the fastest, and all seats are reserved. Nankai Namba is in the Minami area, so it suits a stay at Namba.

Step 3: Compare two hotels

The details below come from each hotel’s official website, checked on October 27, 2026. Features and offers change, so check the hotel’s page before you book.

Swissotel Nankai Osaka. The hotel describes itself as being in the heart of Namba, above Nankai Railway’s Namba Station, with direct train access to Kansai International Airport. It is a 36-storey tower with 546 guestrooms, including 42 Executive floor rooms and 28 suites. The spa has an indoor swimming pool, a Japanese sauna and bath, and the hotel has five restaurants, four bars and a café. The hotel has announced renewal works in its 6th floor lobby from August 20, 2026 to March 2027. Some lobby areas may be closed during that time, and the hours of some 6th floor venues may change.

Hotel Nikko Osaka. The hotel is in Nishi-Shinsaibashi, and its official site says it is directly connected to Exit 8 of Shinsaibashi Station, on the Osaka Metro Midosuji and Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi lines. It has 605 rooms and five restaurants: a café restaurant, and Japanese, Chinese, French and teppanyaki restaurants, plus a main bar and lounges. Check-in is from 3:00 pm and check-out is until 11:00 am. The hotel’s official site is in Japanese.

Step 4: Check the cancellation terms

Rates and cancellation terms differ by hotel, by room type and by rate plan. Read the terms on the page you book, and check that they match your travel plans before you pay.

Step 5: Know the accommodation tax

Osaka Prefecture charges an accommodation tax per person, per night, based on the room rate. Since September 1, 2025, according to the Osaka tourism site: stays under 5,000 yen are not taxed; 5,000 yen to under 15,000 yen is 200 yen; 15,000 yen to under 20,000 yen is 400 yen; and 20,000 yen or more is 500 yen. The room rate includes service charges and a mandatory cleaning fee, and does not include meals. You pay the tax to the hotel. The rates can change, so check the official page before you travel.

Where to book

Trip.com lists both hotels. Each listing shows its own room types, price and cancellation terms, so compare them before you book.
